They have the ability to analyze and examine new production techniques, testing thoroughly every aspect of a new process. Materials such as welded metals are evaluated for strength, corrosion resistance and fatigue. Welding procedures and performance qualification tests are also carried out by Innovacorp. After completion of comprehensive testing on our remanufactured kingpin, they found no significant degradation to the weld repair. The remanufactured kingpin performed as well as a new one in fatigue tests and actually scored higher in chip resistance testing. Two individual tests were completed by Innovacorp on the remanufactured kingpin:
- “SAE J133 Oct 87″ Parts 1 and 2 “Fifth wheel kingpin performance – Commercial Trailers and Semi-Trailers.”
- “SAE J400 Jan 85″ “Test for Chip Resistance of Surface Coatings.”
- New king pins are made to specifications outlined in SAE Standard J700 & J2228. FGA Consultants which has worked extensively in offshore oil and gas industry, performed SAE J700 and SAE J2228 tests on the remanufactured kingpins. Their expertise is in welding engineering analysis. Their results led them to say: “…We feel repairing of king pins by welding to the requirements of the procedure and re-machining to original specifications is an acceptable and economical method of re-manufacturing worn king pins.”
